Tuning

Frequencies and Scales

432 vs 440 copy.jpg

Frequencies

440hz pitch was introduced worldwide in 1953, which nearly all musicians still use today. The advantage of having a pan tuned in this frequency is it allows much more flexibility in playing in ensembles with other instruments.

432hz however is in tune with the natural frequencies of the universe and has profound healing effects. There is vast research on the topic of sound healing frequencies and effects on the body and mind. 432hz is one of the frequencies used throughout sound healing modalities, with other instruments such as gongs and singing bowls.

Scales

There is a wide variety of scales to choose from. A few of Dan's recommended scales can be found here. Please note the standard amount of notes on a pan are 9 notes including the ding central note.

Most scales can be made in 432hz and 440hz, apart from a few. If you would like to know more, please get in touch with Dan.

Extended Series

 Extended series scales can vary, but using this D kurd 12 (see picture) as an example, while standard D kurd notes would be (D) A Bb C D E F G A, the extended scale looks like this (D) A Bb C D E F G A (C D E).
